Saddam was violent & corrupt, he had violated the '91 treaty and many UN res. Most Intel agencies agreed he had wmd because we gave it to him in the 80s =/
In the end, the decision was very bad, but it wasn't some conspiracy to kill a bunch of people for oil.
Following WWII, the US found itself filling the vacuum of power from a devastated Europe. We unfortunately became the police force of the world, and everyone gets nervous around police. It's a duty I hope we share more in the future =/
Mar 29, 2012 TheBalancedAmerican Says:
I defiantly understand your point, and I am no supporter of foreign entanglements, but there is far more to the story than the one-sided perspective offered in this film.
Imo, many things were considered in the decision to invade Iraq, but the once the decision is made, propoghanda is used to sell it. Yes oil was considered, but the US hasn't raped the iraqis of their oil as many suggest. The US has also handed over power to the Iraqis, so the notion of conquering doesn't really apply either.
Mar 29, 2012 MrFelixify Says:
Yes propaganda is old. But some countries use it for different purpose. For example, my country Sweden. Use propaganda to make us pay tax or stop smoking, or accept immigrants, homosexuallity etc etc. US use it to invade countries and kill millions for some geopolitical agenda. Wich one of the two examples is a diabolical conspiracy and wich is harmless and maybe even good for the population?
Mar 29, 2012 MrFelixify Says:
The information is real and the perspective is that the US can come up with whatever story they want and invade whatever oil rich country they want in the name of "spreading democracy" "protecting their freedom" It IS a diabolical conspiracy if you invade a country illegaly on bugus claims and lies all in the name of "protecting freedom" or "secrurity of our citizens"

Although I understand the perspective of media companies, I am very much against SOPA. I did my wiki-duty and contacted my two senators. Media companies need to provide better availability at more reasonable costs.
I am also against unlawful detention, it certainly isn't the first time in our history it has happened.
That all being said, I still think that Psywar is a piece of propaganda complaining about propaganda, its ironic to a laughable degree. ;)

Very interesting lecture, thanks for sharing. I have a few questions for Prof. Jhally though. How do you limit marketing without limiting free speech and free will? Don't we want all the information to be presented and then allow people to make up their own minds? People are not forced to accept propaganda. Prof. Jhally reduces us to mindless robots. He is only partially right.
I do think he presents some very good information that more people should be aware of. =)

Oh, they are. People are getting back to their roots with psychedelics ALL over the world and questioning everything they've ever been told. Just wait man, the world is waking up. Watch some videos on my playlists on David Icke/David Wilcock/Drunvalo , etc etc. Those videos are spreading like wildfire because the truth RESONATES with people harder than these bullshit lies.
Jan 7, 2012 GeoffTheGiraff Says:
Yes, which is why people like David Icke, Alex Jones, Ron Paul, David Wilcock, Drunvalo Malchezidek, and UFO/ancient astronaut theories are suddenly exploding into the forefront of the collective consciousness, because people are waking up to the ways they've been manipulated for forever into fear, war, debt, taxes, and hate. THank you for keeping your reply civil, I should have been moreso in my first comment.

Your point is somewhat accurate, but your judgement of psychological manipulation isn't fair. Propaganda can be essential to success. Ask any manager or leader how important esprit de corp is. Propaganda presents one side of an issue, which makes it intellectually dishonest, but entirely false.
Media is limited by access to information. However, I believe it is harder today for gov to hide its actions. Armies of investigative reporters armed with the internet is tough to fight.

When the government that is in control is a part of the same war mongering system that has been in place for eons and they use all of their resources to keep the public dumb to reality and in constant conflict, like it is today, then I think it is a pretty evil diabolical scheme. You are narrowminded and effectively brainwashed if you believe anything you read in the MSM isn't controlled by those at the top.
