Mongolia back then had less that 1 mln population and had no industry at all. USSR also had to keep same 1,5 mln men army group in South Caucassus against Turks and Iranians. Combined with Far East army group it distracted 1/4 of simultaneously active troops from action against nazis.

Population numbers do not stand for the troops they contributed only. Its all about resources, would it be work force or raw materials or food or whatever. Population that large allowed germans not to mobilize kids and women to production as USSR did. Men with age excess 55 wasn`t drafted into Wermacht either. The War was MUCH greater burden for Soviets that anyone else because we had all but unlimited population resources despite popular myth.
