yeah, this was in a volume of negima, (probably volume 7ish) and it was a side arc, so its probably just a plotless ova or something. strange that its in the style of negima!? when it was in the original manga :D

@mugglegirl07 All the spells cast and chanted in Negima! are in Latin, same as Harry Potter. Theoretically, Negi could use the same spells as Harry, if he wanted to. There's als a reference in an official Manga translation, I forget which one, in which Negi is explaining his ability to fly via his wand/staff to Asuna, and says "Please, no Quiddich jokes"

Im not sure if the mangas do that. And to answer your question of which season this is, it's "Mahou Sensei Negima." All the OVAs follow through from that season, even though the characters are completely redrawn.

From what I've seen, there's no season 2 yet. There's "Mahou Sensei Negima" (Magister Negi Magi) which is the original anime of the series. Then there's "Negima!?" which is a re-telling of the original anime, but it differs entirely. The OVAs follow "Mahou Sensei Negima" storyline and the manga as well.
